Updated edit. Im wondering if this guy sold me the wrong derailleur. In the front set, middle gear I can not stop the chain from rubbing on one side of the otther
Iput a new front derailleur on. I set the hight on the frame set the low end lightened the cable and now I’m trying to set the high end but even at it’s lowest setting it wants to go far past the large gear. What am I doing wrong? I can’t even get the shifter to click into the third setting, it feels like I’m going to rip the cable.
Edit derp, I had it set so low it wouldn’t move. I fixed it. It still seems very tight shifting tho. Now only if it wasn’t like 35 and railing...

I don’t know, but is it possible the FD is designed specifically for a triple ring? If so, that would explain the excessive range of motion.
Again though, I am fairly clueless about the subject. I like riding them more than working on them.
Edit: I probably should have looked at the very clear picture of the triple ring, right there in front of me.
Disregard. I am of no use here. Lol

have you adjusted the high/low stops?

Glad you got it fixed. I was going to suggest just tossing the FD and big chainring for a bash guard and joining me over her in the 1x8 army :)

I hate working on bikes. You would think this would be easy
The allroad was easier

Nah, I use a wide range of gears

I’mworking on it. No matter what I do it runs on one side or adjust it and now the other. It almost seems like the chain guide thing is too narrow

This is the correct answer. Cheaper, lighter, one less thing too break. Get in better shape if you need to.

I mean the screws on the body, not cable tension

Fair enough. The ridiculous wide-range cassettes that go from 11 to 40+ teeth have mitigated a lot of that for me, but I also live somewhere without too much in the way of hills.

Touching on my earlier thought, since compact doubles are all the rage today maybe that FD isn’t triple compatible. Again though, just wildly guessing.

I’ve been tweaking everything. I rotated it around the frame and.lowered it a bit. I extended the high and low. It still runs in front middle when I am in either the highest or lowest rear gears.

The trails our back have a pretty wide variety to flat and fast to steep and Rocky

That appears to be the right derailleur for the bike but it may be made for a modern narrow 10 spd chain so will have a tight fit on anything wider like an 8 spd. Otherwise, they are simple things.
Have you checked with Sheldon Hammond?

I’m glad you got it sorted out. Derailleurs are ridiculously fiddly things and once they get even slightly out of adjustment it is seems impossible to get them working right again.
Also I just had to say I love your work stand. I’ve definitely come up with some similar contraptions to work on my bikes too. But as much as I mess with bikes I really just need to go ahead and pick up an actual bike work stand.

Exactly. Story of my life right there.
